Reuniting After War is happy to announce our next reunion with the men of 4-23 Infantry Battalion , 4th platoon, deployed in Iraq together from August 2005-November 2006. The Reunion will take place in June 2017.
In August 2005, the 172nd Stryker Brigade deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The unit deployed to Mosul, Iraq. The duties of the unit during deployment included numerous patrol operations, searches for weapons caches, and counterinsurgency operations.
Their tour was to have ended on 27 July 2006, but the U.S. Army unexpectedly extended the deployment until the end of November 2006. Many of the unit had already sent their belongings home. All their families were impatiently awaiting their arrival. The infamous extension of the deployment had happened after some of the units of the Brigade were already touched down at their home base of Fort Wainwright, AK, forcing them to fly back to staging areas in Iraq. Being the professionals they were, they went about their new assignment as ordered. During the extension, the unit was sent to Baghdad to quell growing sectarian violence concerns.
Three weeks into the offensive, on Sept. 10, 2006, Cpl. Alexander Jordan was mortally wounded by a sniper.
With the extended deployment and the loss of a brother, these men have a special bond that is like no other. They have not been together as a group for 10 years. We are looking forward to reuniting this unit. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please consider donating .
